Our family Christmas visits had the usual hugs, planned fun, and unexpected hilarity. The planned fun was that I ordered Peppa Pig themed shirts for Granddad and company in accordance to who people are or what they like. Sarah’s shirt has Peppa with musical notes and Amy’s has Peppa making lots of different faces. Carl’s has Daddy pig looking at a map and the wording underneath is “Expert?” Daddy Pig is always thinking he is an expert at things but then is far from it, so not quite true about Carl but it is a fun shirt. My brother’s shirt may be my favorite as it has Peppa wearing sunglasses and looking like she belongs in the Matrix.
Amy brought her face painting kit and offered face or hand art to family members. Carl got a replica of Daddy Pig the Expert on his hand. Grammy picked a small red rocking horse, and Amy recreated it on Grammy’s hand. My uncle followed suit by picking a small Donald Duck figurine that Amy could copy. Donald Duck was an important part of my growing up experience, reading the vast collection of Donald Duck comics that my dad and uncle had amassed in their youth. I even learned from them how to – sort of – talk like Donald. As Amy started painting Donald, I said something in my Donald voice. Pretty soon Granddad and my uncle were responding in kind. My uncle sneezed like Donald! My dad sneezed like Donald! I didn’t know that was possible but now a sneeze is part of my repertoire. We were all laughing, and so I even laughed like Donald.
The next bit of hilarity was at Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop’s house when I received a goose costume blanket robe thingie with two pairs of goose-foot slippers. I put it on immediately and Amy put on the extra slippers. That night Carl, Amy, and I stayed up for New Year’s Eve. My mom had given us a game with large pants and small beach balls so we tried playing that while I was dressed as a white goose and Amy had goose-foot slippers. It was absurd!
I forgot to share one interesting moment with Sarah from the previous week. She had some times of saying she didn’t feel well because of too much phlegm. We knew we had taken a dairy dietary risk one night with a dessert, so we assumed that was the culprit. But then after a day of seeming fine, as we returned to our room she suddenly started up again with the phlegmy response. While this could have been legit, Carl and I both questioned it. We reminded her that she could tell us if she wanted attention in some way and that she didn’t have to be sick to get it. She could directly ask for snuggles and attention. She did! And was totally fine with no mention of an upset stomach!
Last night Sarah made dinner. Carl helped with the sauce and vegetables but she made the pasta, including draining the water after it was done cooking. That last part was difficult for her until Carl brought a footstool so her angle next to the sink was easier.
Amy has enjoyed being reunited with her bestie and our cat. She also dyed her hair blue and pink and it looks great.
Wishing you a day with your water fowl in alignment.
