Sarah had an exciting Monday visiting Duquesne University where she will attend a post-secondary program next year. Then she thoroughly enjoyed having themed dress-down days Tuesday through Thursday. Friday she did not have school because they give everyone the day to get ready for the prom. Our preparation included a long nap and an errand to Pigeon Bagels where we got to wait in a long line and look for stripes in the surrounding neighborhood.
When it was time to get dressed on Friday afternoon I oh-so-helpfully put three options on Sarah’s bed: a new dress I had just found, last year’s dress, and the dress I thought she was going to wear. Instead she went to her closet and pulled out a black button-down short-sleeved shirt with neon green musical notes. That has been perfect for piano recitals but is not fancy enough for the prom. After some intense mutual frustration, I hung the dresses back in her closet so she could feel like she was picking something from the closet. She chose the newest dress which is black with gray shapes that make it seem like a giraffe print or animal print of some sort. It has gems around the neck and in a line down the front of the dress. I decided to dress up a tiny bit so I wore a nice blouse and grabbed a fuzzy stylish off-white jacket with large buttons. Luckily that worked perfectly for Sarah to wear on top of her dress and light-weight black overshirt because it was cold that night!

Sarah looked amazing! If you coiffed her hair and handed her a gin and tonic she would have fit perfectly as a society lady from an earlier era. She and her friends walked together for the promenade. It always fills my heart so much to see Sarah with her friends and to know we made a good decision about where to send her to high school. That decision cemented a friend group and parent friend group that has been so supportive and beautiful these past three years.

Meanwhile, in preparation for her own prom, Amy dyed her hair a vibrant red. It looks gorgeous.
This morning Carl and the girls watched the Pittsburgh marathon. Sarah and Carl wore fun hats and Amy had red pom-poms that matched her hair.

Wishing you all friends with whom to dance.
